SICK WL4SL-3P3232 Photoelectric sensor
SICK WL4SL-3P3232 compact retro-reflective photoelectric sensor, PNP, part 1061563. Color-independent object detection with corner-cube reflectors.
Overview
The SICK WL4SL-3P3232 (part number 1061563) is a compact retro-reflective photoelectric sensor from the W4 housing family. Together with a corner-cube reflector it monitors a light barrier from one mounting side, providing dependable object detection where space for a separate receiver is not available.
How It Works
The sensor emits a modulated beam toward a reflector and receives the returned light. Any object entering the path interrupts the beam, and the output switches. Autocollimation optics return the beam along its original path, so alignment is tolerant and the beam stays strong over the working distance.
Key Features
- Compact W4 housing for machines with limited mounting space
- Retro-reflective detection independent of object color and surface
- PNP switching output
- Simple alignment with standard corner-cube reflectors
- Better dirt tolerance than diffuse sensors due to the double light path
- Modulated light for stable operation under ambient lighting
Typical Applications
- Carton detection on packaging and end-of-line conveyors
- Presence monitoring at machine guard openings
- Product detection on accumulation and transfer conveyors
- Stack detection on palletizing conveyors
- General automation object detection with one-sided mounting

Installation and Setup Notes
Mount the reflector rigidly and align it so the returned signal is at its maximum. Remember that flat, shiny targets can act as mirrors; if the application includes such objects, a polarizing-filter retro-reflective sensor or a through-beam pair is the safer selection. Clean the sensor lens and reflector regularly in dusty areas.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which reflector should be used?
Standard corner-cube reflectors from the SICK accessory range work with this sensor; the reflector size is chosen according to the required distance.
Does it detect transparent bottles?
Transparent objects return very little change to a standard retro-reflective beam; for transparent targets choose a sensor with polarizing filter or a fork sensor.
What does the P in the order code mean?
It identifies the PNP switching output configuration of this variant.
